“Illuminated” was born of an Outer Planetz/esa Facetime moodboard of nouns and adjectives. The instrumental encompasses the emotions and sensory notions of these words, inspiring the melody, while the lyrics themselves speak of the rollercoastering mental and social turmoil a global pandemic can wreak on the human mind—but make it danceable cuz we need that too.
